You can pick and choose your clients
Consider these wise words of Sigmund Freud before you write yourself off.
As Expert Entrepreneurs working alone and pushing the boundaries of our comfort zone, it can be easy to diagnose ourselves with low self-esteem or depression, but before we do, let’s just make sure we’ve checked in with Sigmund Freud’s very sound advice.

Just so you know, in your own business not only can you choose who you employ, but you can choose who employs you.
If you have clients that are not a good fit, either because of their character or because the project doesn’t quite align with your area of expertise and interest, you have every right to fire them or just say ‘no’ in the first place.
When I consider taking on clients, I often consider myself as lazy ‘Do I really want to do this?’ We need to remember that if the project isn’t a good fit, doing it because we need the money can do us more harm than good. Be selective.
At the end of the day, it isn’t just about money, it is about our mental health and our happiness – the ability to keep the doors of our doors open.
If we don’t feel super confident about delivering a service because it isn’t our best fit, it will hurt our self-esteem. If we aren’t fulfilled or enjoying our work, we will feel depressed.
Who are you working with right now who just isn’t the right for you? It doesn’t make them assholes, but it does make them a drain on your critical resources. Consider saying goodbye, taking a pay cut if you need to and cutting down on expenses, to regain your self-esteem and happiness.
Because after all, isn’t this why we started our own businesses?
Create your life, not someone else’s.
